For the past three or four years the event has only been able to continue with extreme difficulty and by the continual assistance of existing staff that have helped for decades.
After last years event I made a plea to competitors, past competitors and their friends that unless I have new people willing to assist the race will die out.


This years race will be on Saturday 7th July, application forms are now available. The closing date 16th of June--not the early hours of 17th June! The entry fee will remain at £12 if received before 1st May, and £15 if received on or after 1st May.

The event has been held since 1964, with the exception of 2001 when we had FMD restrictions on land access, originally it started at Beacon Howe, Ravenscar and finished in Osmotherley village. Since 1998 the race has been held in the conventional Lyke Wake Walk direction, starting at Sheepwash car park, Osmotherley & finishing at the Raven Hall Hotel.

Competitors start times are based on their own estimates (and our past records) and can vary from about 0400hrs for slow(ish) walkers through to about 1030hrs for runners. We now send an e-mail (providing the address given is legible!) once an application is received to give competitors a rough idea of their start time.  All the final start information is sent out immediately after the closing date.

Apart from the start & finish there are seven check-points on the route, they all supply drinks and one (Lion Inn) just under half way supplies food. There is transport to evacuate retired/injured competitors to the finish, and to take competitors bags to the finish from the start. However there is no transport to get any competitor back to the start from Ravenscar -- this is financially & logistically impossible.

Various trophies are awarded and each competitor to complete the event within twelve hours receives a completion certificate and an engraved crystal memento.
